Japanese trio and Hong Kong win team sprints at UCI Track Cycling Nations Cup – Insidethegames.biz

Hosts Hong Kong and the Japanese Dream Seeker Racing Team claimed team sprint victories in the women’s and men’s events on the opening day of the International Cycling Union (UCI) Track Cycling Nations Cup at the Hong Kong Velodrome.

In the women’s competition, the trio of Lee Wai Sze, Yeung Cho Yiu and Lee Hoi Yan won gold for Hong Kong in a time of 50.029sec.

They were the only team competing in the women’s event.

Dream Seeker Racing Team’s Tomohiro Fukaya, Shinji Nakano and Yuta Obara defeated Spain’s Ekain Jimenez Elizondo, Alejandro Martinez Chorro and Juan Peralta in the men’s gold medal match.

Despite being behind for the majority of the race, Dream Seeker Racing Team turned over a deficit to the Spaniards to finish in a time of 44.617 to their opponents’ 45.177.

Ukraine’s Bohdan Danylchuk, Vladyslav Denysenko and Yehor Peralta won the bronze medal, overturning Malaysia’s Ahmad Safwan Ahmad Nazeri, Amar Danial Masri and Muhammad Ridwan Sahrom within the last 125 metres.

Despite being behind the whole race, Ukraine edged the race in a time of 45.816 to Malaysia’s 46.179.

The men’s team pursuit final took place today too, with the German quartet of Theo Reinhardt, Felix Gross, Leon Rohde and Domenic Weinstein claiming gold ahead of Denmark’s Tobias Hansen, Matias Malmberg, William Levy and Robin Skivild.

Dominant from the start, Germany finished over four seconds ahead of the Danes in a time of 3min 52.429sec to their opponents’ 3:56.800.

Japan’s Eiya Hashimoto, Shunsuke Imamura, Naoki Kojima and Kazushige Kuboki won the bronze medal with a time of 4:01.587 in qualification.
