The Roanoke Outside Foundation says a new study estimates the economic impact of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Go Cross at more than $388,000.

That’s an increase of 90 percent over last year.

Pete Eshelman is the Director of Outdoor Branding for the Roanoke Regional Partnership.

“The number of riders from outside the region increased by 30 percent over the previous year, as well as the number of people they traveled with,” Eshelman said. “And that’s part of our goal, just like with the marathon, we want them to come. We want them to stay longer, add a different night, bring more people with them, because that all contributes to the impact.”

And Eshelman said the economic impact of the recent GoCross event was larger than the amount the Blue Ridge Marathon generated in any of its first three years.
