Kolhapur: Cyclists from Kolhapur have urged the civic body to clear up the encroachments along the cycling track at the earliest.
The Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) had submitted a proposal for developing a dedicated cycling track alongside Shivaji University premises as many cyclists were seen using the highway.
District Planning and Development Council had allotted Rs 18 lakh for this track and the work of the first-of-its-kind dedicated cycling track in Kolhapur is in the last stage. But even before it is thrown open to cyclists, the track has allegedly been encroached upon by roadside vendors.
A cyclist and member of Kolhapur cycling club Suchit Hiremath said, “We have got this new cycling track after years of demands. Although the track is small and short, half of it is already encroached by the roadside vendors.” Cyclist Gourav Joshi said, “The road leading to Shahu toll naka from Shivaji University sees high speed vehicles and cyclists have to go into their path because of the encroachments. This can be extremely dangerous for us.”
