Melbourne hit and run: Hampton Park cyclist killed prompting traffic closures on Thursday morning – 7NEWS

A cyclist has been killed on a road in Melbourne’s south east after he was struck in an early morning hit and run.

The cyclist, a man aged in his 50s, was cycling in Hampton Park at around 4.30am on Thursday.

He was struck by a car at the intersection of Hallam and Pound roads and died at the scene.

The man’s bike was left mangled on the side of the road with detectives taking photos at the scene of the hit and run on Thursday morning.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to get in contact.

Pound Road in Hampton Park remains closed Melbourne-bound at Hallam Road due to the collision.

Hallam Road is also closed in both directions between Pound Road and Somerville Road.

Drivers have been urged to use the South Gippsland Freeway and Princes Highway instead and to allow extra time.
