Boels-Dolmans has announced the signing of British rider Anna Shackley from 2021, when the team will have the name of its new sponsor SD Worx Cycling Team.
The 19-year-old has shown good results in competition that put in evidence her potential to develop into a top cyclist. “I’m extremely proud of the fact that this top team would want to have me as a member,” said Shackley. “I had never expected to have the opportunity to transition to a WorldTour team at such a young age.”
The British cyclist finished in the 13th position at the Women’s Tour of Scotland in 2019 -when she was 18. She also finished in the twelfth position at the Junior World Championships and before the Covid-19 outbreak, she became British track cycling champion twice, in the points race and in the team pursuit.
“We have given her a two-year contract with an option to extend it by two more years,” said Boels-Dolmans Sports Director Danny Stam. “We firmly believe she has a unique driving force inside her. It will be a great challenge to help such a talented rider develop.”
The Scottish rider knows which points she will have to develop to reach her full potential. “I don’t have much experience yet with properly high mountains, but I want to become a rider who excels in events like the Giro d’Italia,” she explained. “I’m hoping to achieve a good ranking in these multiple-stage races. I also hope to do well in hilly one-day races, such as Liège–Bastogne–Liège.”
