Weekend Event Guide: Cyclocross returns, architecture tour, Tour de Lab, and more – BikePortland.org

The big event is Sunday! Get registered, don your doggy ears and get ready for a good time.

Don’t let this drabble of liquid sunshine fool you. There’s a lot of sun left in the season and a lot of fun to be had on two wheels.

If you’re a cyclocross fan you should be doubly excited: Not only does the season kick off on Saturday but these rains might make the course much more interesting.

Saturday, August 31st

Gran Prix Luciano Bailey #1 – David Douglas (Vancouver, WA)
Forest singletrack, a big climb, flat grass, a bit of pavement, and even a section through bark chips! This classic course has a bit of everything and it should be a perfect kickoff to the 2019 Cyclocross season. More info here.

Forest Park Trail – 9:30 am at Wilshire Park (NE)
This Portland Bicycling Club group ride will roll on Leif Erikson Drive, the unpaved road through Forest Park. Discover this gem of a route as you loop back across the St. Johns Bridge and through St. Johns. More info here.

First Timer’s Ride – 10:00 am at River City Bicycles (SE)
This ride is for people looking to get on a road bike for the very first time and who want to learn the basics. If you don’t have a bike, River City Bicycles staff will get you outfitted with a helmet and a bike. More info here.

Biking About Architecture: Beaumont/Roseway – 11:30 am at Grand Central Bakery (NE)
Geodesic dome home, gargoyles, and more hidden residential gems of the Beaumont and Cully neighborhoods await you on this social group ride. Bring money for the end stop at Fire on the Mountain. More info here.

Sunday, September 1st

***BP PICK!*** Tour de Lab – Lucky Lab Brew Pub (SE Hawthorne)
Flaunt your inner dog love on this legendary Portland ride that stops at several Lucky Lab locations. Benefit for Dove Lewis Animal Hospital. Organizers support BikePortland so please support this ride! Registration and more info here.

Welcome Ride – Around the Compass Explorer – 9:30 am at Parkrose/Sumner Park & Ride Lot (NE)
This adventurous 25-30 mile ride will be led by Bud Rice from the Portland Bicycling Club. Route will be decided at the start but could venture north to Vancouver, east to Troutdale, or? More info here.

DiscGo Golf Ride – 10:00 am at Ladd Circle (SE)
This sounds like an awesome ride. Costumes optional but encouraged as you bike around to “9 holes of disc golf no one has ever played before.” More info here.
