Whistler Mountain Bike Park Announces Details for Opening Weekend – Pinkbike.com

Before and after a fresh layer and buff for the final hit on A-Line .

PRESS RELEASE: Whistler Mountain Bike Park

We made it. Through the long, cold grasp of winter to the most anticipated event of the year. The day we have circled on our calendars since October. The unofficial start of summer. A devout holiday of sorts. However you associate it, it’s here. The Whistler Mountain Bike Park opening day is Friday.

Despite the colder than average winter in the valley, Mother Nature has recently brought the heat and helped melt out a lot of the snow that was sitting still at lower elevations for most of the spring. The trail crew has boots on the ground for a while now, working 7 days a week on the Fitzsimmons zone, getting fresh dirt, reshaped lips and polished berms ready come Friday.

For your opening weekend, we should have most of the Fitz zone up and riding. With fresh work on A-Line and Crank It Up, among others, the trails of the Bike Park will be ripe for the picking. Closures will be limited to Dirt Merchant and Golden Triangle, and possibly Angry Pirate, though the team remains optimistic about the latter being ready to go soon.

Weekend Festivities
You don’t have to tell any mountain biker that this is a can’t miss event on the mountain biking calendar. Rightfully so, we will have a ton of festivities going on. Our friends from Sram are here, as well as GT Bikes, Pinkbike, Monster and others ensuring there will be no shortage of stoke and good vibes at the base of the mountain.

On Saturday, Sram is hosting a dual slalom race at the base of the park. Registration is only $10, and you will get two timed laps down the course. With times will be combined and used to give overall rankings. Joyride Bike Parks is building an amazing custom track for this race, and the only way to ride it is to race it. Awards and après will follow the event at the GLC.
