Authorities say a 48-year-old Kansas man died following an accident during a cycling race at Cheney Reservoir over the weekend.

William “Craig” Henwood, of Olathe, was racing in the Rage Against the Chainring gravel bicycle race on Saturday. The Reno County Sheriff’s Office says Henwood started to drift left in front of a pack of riders when his bike left the road. He tumbled over the front of the handlebars and hit his head.

CPR was performed, but Henwood died at the scene. His body taken to the Wichita Forensics Center for tests, the Hutch Post reports.

It’s unclear whether Henwood suffered a medical condition, but one of his friends said on Facebook that he had a stroke.

The Rage Against the Chainring is a popular event that is part of a race series put on by the Kansas Cycling Association.
